Laurel Canyon should be
differentiated from the Laurel
Canyon of the Hollywood Hills.
This Laurel Canyon is a
very pleasant hike near
Laguna Canyon reserve.

Holy Jim Falls is located
on a trail that takes off
from Trabuco Canyon.
These falls got their curious name
from a pioneer who lived
nearby and whose entire
vocabulary consisted of profanity.

The Santa Rosa Plateau Ecological
Reserve is one of the jewels
of the Nature Conservancy projects.
The vernal pools on this high plateau
are unique in Southern Calif.

The California poppies were
found in the hills above
Lake Street near Lake
Elsinore.

My favorite sunset location
in Southern California is from a
small park on Cannon Street
in Orange, Calif.

Coreopsis lines the Sycamore Trail
in former Pt. Mugu State Park
which I now believe is
Santa Monica Mountains National
Monument?

Every year flower growers
plant fields of annuals
for seed production.
As a result, the flowers
are allowed to bloom to the
delight of photographers but
in reality to go to seed.

The red dragonfly is ubiquitous
in areas with water. The
larval form or nymphs live in the
water until they emerge as
dragonflies.
This was found at the
Los Angeles Arboretum.

As I was patiently waiting for
a cormorant to fish or do something,
this green heron alit about 20 feet
away from me. I was
able to take 2 shots before he
flew away.
[Fullerton Arboretum]

The Leonic meteor showers
were quite exciting and
I was able to capture at least
one meteor with my
fisheye lens in the darkness
of Joshua Tree.

Early morning is a good time
for nature photography as
a layer of dew may gently
cover plants in a soft blanket.
This thistle was found along
the road on Santiago Canyon Road.

Poppies and bluebells bloom
in profusion near Lake Street
in the Lake Elsinore area.

Although fall colors are unusual
in Southern California, buckwheat
when deprived of water
turns reddish brown
in the Cleveland Nat'l Forest.

This shot and the previous
were taken late September
in the higher levels of
Silverado Canyon in the
Cleveland Nat'l Forest.

Individual leaves on this
Sycamore are starting to change
colors. But this might
occur for the lack of water
rather than the approaching fall.

Whenever there is nothing to
take photographs when looking up
I always look to the ground
to see if there are any
macro subjects such as these lichens
that I found in Caspers Park.

I call this the "ghost"
tree, a moss covered treee
in an agricultural area
along the Santa Ynez River.

A human perspective of the
world's talled lodgepole
pine tree near Big Bear.

Mormon Rocks are interesting
rock formations found at
the intersection of I-15
and Hwy 138. As this location
is near Cajon Pass
the main train routes pass
through here as well.

My favorite tree is the California
oak. Here they make a canopy
over Borrego Canyon, which is
part of Whiting Ranch in Irvine.
