Here are some recent photos I took on a short trip up the coast. There are still some wildflowers around. I drove up Hwy 1 and down Hwy 101. Mission San Antonio is located in the Hunter-Liggett Military Base.
I was the first one who saw them and stopped. By the time I drove away there were 20 cars parked watching them. Somebody told me that Heast had kept exotic animals at San Simeon.
Elephant seals north of San Simeon
It is wondrous that elephant seals used to be very wary of humans. But they have apparently gotten over this fear and now carry out their lives in view of hundreds of humans.
Lupines and tidy tips north of San Simeon
This site was just north of where the elephant seals have beached themselves.
Poppies at Mission San Antonio
Mission San Antonio is a gorgeous mission and is well preserved. This photo of the mill was taken south of the main mission building. Water to run the mill wheel came from a river three miles away via a small aqueduct.
